Babes in Arms

1939

Starring

Mickey Rooney
Judy Garland

Running Time

93 minutes

Rooney and Garland are paired once again for a wonderful and musical movie. This movie is about kids of show people. The kids are wanting to get into show business but their parents don't want them to. While the parents are traveling with the show the children are threatened to be sent to the county work school. The children put on a show in hope of getting in show biz. Will they make it to
Broadway or not? This movie also shows a lot of respect for parents which makes it even better.
There is kissing.
I will give this 4.5 stars of 5.

I Dream of a Farm

My mom and I wrote this poem around seven or eight years ago.

  I Dream of a Farm

I dream of a farm so big and beautiful,
with flowers and trees so colorful.
A big house with sparkling windows
And sheep grazing in the meadow.
I see daddy with the horses in the field.
We'll soon see what the harvest will yield.
Our cows gives us creamy milk.
We use it to make cheese as smooth as silk.
We have a dog that helps with the sheep,
He is my brothers responsibility to keep.
My little sisters romp and play,
With kittens, chicks and duck all day.
While follow mommy and help her with the household chores
We, then, bake pies for all who have been
outdoors.
The evening finds us all around the fire,
While daddy reads the Bible before we retire.
I dream of a farm.........

This is one of my favorite movies, EVER! Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland are my favorite actor and actress. This movie is about Jimmy Connors (Mickey Rooney) and his high school friends starting a high school orchestra and raising money to go Chicago to perform for Paul Whiteman and his Orchestra. I love this movie because it’s fun, but, it also teaches values. This is a great movie also because, even though it’s about highschoolers, there is a lot of respect for the parents. This is a wonderful movie for entertainment that is full of music and Judy’s singing!  And Rooney shows off his talent with the drums!
I will give this five stars out of five.

Happy Birthday!

Today is my Papaw's ( not to be confused with my Pop-paw) birthday and I thought that I would post some poems that I've written in years past. I wrote the first poem when I was nine years old.

I am going to post it the way I wrote it when I was nine years old. Well, I'll fix the misspelled words.
Papaw and Gracie

My Papaw

My Papaw is a helping hand when every we need him
he is right there he is like a cloud in the air.

I love my Papaw he is the best. He takes care of us like a mother bird in a nest.

My Papaw he can do anything he wants. He can be a  builder, firefighter, a musician,  a vet and a chef maybe even a tennis player.

He helps us a lot like bringing wood. I would work with him everyday if I could.

My Papaw likes to work on cars. He can work on Subarus to  model T's.
I can't can you?

I can only tell you one more thing and that his is married to a no. 1 Mammaw.

Gracie Poo

This next one, my mom and us kids wrote back in 2010. This poem is little more truthful then the first one.
In the first one, I have to say that Papaw has never been a firefighter, a musician, a vet, or even a chef.

Oh, yeah and this one is titled - My Papaw - also

My Papaw

Papaw _________ the jack of all trades,
He works on trucks, cars and trains.

He can cook good cornbread and taters,
And his favorite snack is  apple fritters.

He always has a joke to tell,
And of course when he tells them they never fail.

He knows people from here and there,
Because he goes everywhere.

No one is a stranger to him,
Because he always has a yarn to spin.

Papaw is a hospitable man,
Sometimes he invites everyone in the land.

My papaw_________ he's the best,
He sure isn't like the rest.

Though his feet may ail and his back may hurt,
That still don't keep him from diggin in the dirt.

He loves _________ his honey bun,
And we really did mean to make a pun.

So thank you papaw for all you do,
from a family who loves you.

Love,
Your family.

Does it remind you of a Norman Rockwell painting?

Happy Birthday to my Papaw. We love you very much. And I put it on the blog just so that the whole world knows its your birthday.

AWESOME!

Purple Eye, Toothie and I all received superiors at our judging today. This is my second superior in a row. Hooray!!!

Pollyanna grows up

If you like the book or the movie Pollyanna, you will love the book Pollyanna Grows Up. You can read it as an e-book, like I did. I won't tell you what the book is all about; I don't want to give it away. But I will tell you this, the book follows Pollyanna from 12 years old to 20 years old.

 Grace

I'm not nervous... At least I don't think so.

Today I have a Piano Judging at a near by state college. You may ask "are you nervous?'' I'm never nervous until the last ten minutes. So we will see how it goes today. This will be either my eighth or my ninth judging, I don't quite remember. By the way Toothie and Purple Eye are also being judged.

I remember mamma, a story about a mama who makes sacrifices for her children. This story is about a family, living in San Francisco, who makes sacrifices for one another, and the family practices oikonamia
( family Economics)  I highly recommend this movie to anyone. From the perspective of a large, conservative family there is nothing inappropriate. This is a great movie for all members of the family. I will give this
five stars of out of five.

Another one

Here is another picture of a boy and his horse.

Lil' wabbits

This was made by my crafty sister. It's a rabbit (in case you could not tell.)
She glued eggs on for her eyes.

I think that this bunny has some kind of eye problem.

This one was made by my three year old sister and her grandmother. The blue dots were Rosie's idea.

This Saturday

Today the family has worked with our horse named, Trooper. And then the girls made wreaths while the men cleared brush. Here are some pictures.

This is my eight year old sister's wreath that she made. She likes to do crafts, and in case you could not tell she made this one all by herself.

Friendship is a part of life.

This is a true story about my brother Purple Eye and his best friend.  I hope that you will enjoy. I wrote this story with some of the dialog that we use in the Southland.

Hello there! My name is Johnny. I have a story I would like to tell you. It’s about a boy named Paul and me.
But first I want to let you in on something, you see, friendships are priceless, friendships are a part of life.  Everybody has friends - whether they’re a good person or bad. We all lose friends, such as, someone moving or perhaps you no longer see eye to eye on things. But no matter the reason, it always hurts just the same. You don’t always get to tell each other good bye, many times you may have talked to a friend and have never realized that it would be the last time that you would ever see each other again.  But whatever happens we always need to realize it’s a part of life.
Making new friends is also a part of life. Often times, we’re shy with someone new. At other times, you meet people and like each other right 'off the bat'. But no matter the situation, friendship is one of the greatest things on earth. And so here goes my story of my best friend, Paul, and me.
I remember the first time that I met Paul. It had been a cold and snowy couple of days in January. Dad and mama invited a family over for dinner. We had only met them once before at a church Christmas Play. Having met their oldest boy before, I noticed that he was interested in a lot of the same things that I was. And so, I got my room all ready to play with the new boy. I don’t quite remember much of what we played, but we boys, along with the rest of the family, were new friends.
Both of our dads were preachers and in a period of a year started a church. So Paul and I got see each other almost every Sunday.
Every Sunday after church, we imagined everything from Louis and Clark to cowboys to medieval knights. On each Sunday, we would make a decision on what we wanted to pretend or explore for the next Sunday.
Paul and I were somewhat different from the normal world - we were homeschooled and lived in large families. We also liked climbing trees as high as we could possibly go. And we would bring our sling shots and have competitions to see who could shoot the best. Sometimes we would shoot our BB guns or .22’s.
A couple of times our dads took us on father and son campouts and late night fishing on the river. Paul's and my deepest desire were to be like our dads. We thought they were strong and adventurous.
I remember one year Paul got some high impact battle swords. For weeks to come, he and I played Robert the Bruce and William Wallace for hours every Sunday.
I could not tell you the times that Paul and I have wrestled, doing what only boys can do. Many a time, one of us would get a sucker punch in the belly and would be hurt at the other, but it would soon be over and once again we would be on the ground.
Believe me, if we even got so much as near to a creek we both seemed to come home with a jar full of crawdads, pants caked with mud and wet and sweaty faces, arms and feet.
There were times when we would make fun of each other. One would lose respect for the other, so that we
would have to rebuild trust over time.
But with all the times that we were wrestling, silly, climbing trees or sharing dinners with each other, some of the best times were when we would study the Bible together.
I never thought at the time, growing up would be so hard. Time grows longer, our families grow bigger, and we boys grow taller. It was when Paul’s voice was changing and the taller he grew, it seemed to me that the year between us was larger than what I thought.
But at the time, our families weren’t just growing bigger, but also our families were growing different in our beliefs. And one day Paul and his family left without saying good bye.
Seeing that I was a boy, I never wanted to tell anybody that  I spent many a night crying over the loss of my best friend, Paul.
One day Paul visited to say good bye, for he was moving. But when Paul came to tell me, he and I had changed. We didn’t wrestle or explore, and he didn’t even talk to me the way he used to. But finally I realized it was a part of life.
So that’s my story of Paul, my best friend. Even though I have met many new friends, I never have and never will find a friend like Paul. It’s a part of life.
It’s hard when growing up with friends, especially when they are older than you, like Paul was to me. The older person matures and changes before the other and so you’re hurt because you’re not yet there.
And so we need to remember that there is no need to feel sorry for ourselves, for it’s a part of life.

You can dood it, too!

In my opinion, here are the easiest  ways to do twenty miles on a treadmill without even building up to it (like I did.):
 1) Watch a musical movie.

It's best if you watch a movie that you have seen before so that  there isn't any anticipation.  And make sure that it is a musical -  it helps to pass time.  Another thing, turn your volume way up so that it's basically consuming you.
Here are some of my favorite musical movies:

Babes on Broadway
 In the Good Old Summertime
Sound of Music
Babes in Arms
Strike up the Band
Thoroughbreds Don't Cry
On Moonlight Bay
By the Light of the Silvery Moon

2) Re-start the treadmill.

Yes, restart the treadmill every five miles.  By doing this, you can have a sense of accomplishment.  But you have to make sure that you write down your carbs and calories that are already burned and the time/distance you've traveled.
One thing to remember, the treadmill gives an estimate of your burned carbs and calories, but, it really depends on your weight. There are calculators online to figure this out for you.

3) Be sure that you walk twenty miles when you have nowhere to be.

Two days ago, I walked twenty miles and I have never been so sore in my life. To be honest, it hurts to walk.   I probably would not have been so sore if I had built up to it, but, I just decided to try it anyway.

If you want to get the most out of your twenty miles walk on a full incline and jog half of it, like I did.  Alright who's next?

                                                       Still very sore,
                                  Grace
Boy! I'm tired.

Thankfully my 12 year old brother has decided not to skin the skunk that he trapped the other day. He read about too many bad experiences. The whole family is very glad of the decision  that he has made.
