Happy Birthday, Mamaw!

Happy Birthday to my Yahtzee playing, Facebook posting, and gravy making Mamaw! She's a great cook and keeps everything simple.
She's a country girl from the hollers of North Carolina and we never thought that we would live to see her go to New York City once a year.
She tells us everything we need to know about our family history tracing back to he 1700's.
She loves Norman Rockwell, old pottery, old movies, and Hershey kisses.
She loves shopping or being in the great outdoors. This she could do all day LLLOOONNGGG! Ha!Ha!Ha!
We love her ability to organize and keep her house perfectly clean. She is always there for children and grand children and we all love her so much!

And here is her favorite song.

Blossoms in the Dust theatrical release poster

This is a highly recommended movie. I know I say this a lot, but this is a Superior movie. Though you might want to have a Kleenex ready. This is a story of the life of Edna Kahly Gladney, the tragedies, her sacrifice, her loyality, and her ''children'' in Fort Worth, TX. This is a true story of a women who loved, cared, and found adoptive families for over 10,000 children. This is also about her fight with the Senate to remove the name 'illegitimate' from children without last names. As Mrs. Gladney says "There are no illegitimate children only illegitimate parents." Learn more about Edna Gladney here
The last scene is the most touching I must say. Watch the movie and you will know what I mean. This is a must see. Tell your friends about it.

Aunt Eula

Sorry for the bad quality. This picture was taken with a camcorder.

Yesterday, I went with my Mamaw 'S' and 84 year old great- grandmother to visit and interview her 98 year old aunt. Aunt Eula has a very vivid memory and can still get around excellently. It was amazing to hear her tell stories of when she was eight years old. Eula was the oldest girl of 12 children.

Hopefully, I'll start posting some stories she told.

Our Honey!

Here is some honey from our hives. This is about 25% of 1 frame and they're 10 frames in one hive.

This part of the comb.

The honey drains for 24 hours.

Its probably blackberry blossom honey. And it tastes great!

I don't want to spoil the story for you, but here is part of a scene.

(John Doe is about to jump from the top of a building on Christmas. Miss Mitchel comes to stop him)
Ann Mitchel -Please don't give up. We'll start all over again. Just you and I. It isn't too late. The John Doe movement isn't dead yet. You see, John, it isn't dead or they wouldn't be here. It's alive in them. They kept it alive by being afraid. That's why they came up here. Oh, darling!... We can start clean now. Just you and I. It'll grow John, and it'll grow big because it'll be honest this time. Oh, John, if it's worth dying for, it's worth living for. Oh please, John... You wanna be honest, don't ya? Well, you don't have to die to keep the John Doe ideal alive. Someone already died for that once. The first John Doe. And he's kept that ideal alive for nearly 2,000 years. It was He who kept it alive in them. And He'll go on keeping it alive for ever and always - for every John Doe movement these men kill, a new one will be born. That's why those bells are ringing, John. They're calling to us, not to give up but to keep on fighting, to keep on pitching. Oh, don't you see darling? This is no time to give up.

Thanks to Miss B for telling me about this movie.
