Recommended Movies

Here are some of my most recommended movies.

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington

1939

Starring
Jean Arthur
Jimmy Stewart

This is one of the best movies ever made. Nominated for 11 Academy Awards and best original story. This reveals the truth about American government. there are so many good quotes in this movie and so inspiring. This is a must see for anybody living in America. If I could I would send this to every American citizen.

[His voice very horse] I guess this is just another lost cause, Mr. Paine. All you people don't know about lost causes. Mr. Paine does. He said once they were the only causes worth fighting for, and he fought for them once, for the only reason any man ever fights for them: Because of one plain simple rule: Love thy neighbor. And in this world today, full of hatred, a man who knows that one rule has a great trust. You know that rule, Mr. Paine. And I loved you for it just as my father did, and you know that you fight for the lost causes harder than for any others. Yes, you even die for them, like a man we both know, Mr. Paine. You think I'm licked. You all think I'm licked. Well, I'm not licked, and I'm gonna stay right here and fight for this lost cause, even if this room gets filled with lies like these! [takes a handful of the letters in the basket and throws them on the floor]. When the Taylors and all their armies come marching into this place, somebody'll listen to me! So--- [Faints from exaustion]

The Glenn Miller Story

1954

James Stewart
June Allyson

Glenn miller story.jpg

A wonderful movie about the infamous bandleader Glenn Miller (James Stewart). Who starts at the bottom and works his way to the top. With the help of his encouraging wife (June Allyson), Glenn Miller finally found his unique sound and become one of the most popular band leaders in history.  This movie contains wonderful jazz and swing music.
After the disappointment of not being able to have children the Millers adopt two children. He also joins the army as a USO entertainer and as he flies over Britain his plane is lost. Glenn Miller is still proclaimed as missing in action to this day.

Music for Millions

1945

Starring
Margaret O'Brien
June Allyson
Jose Iturbi
Jimmy Durante

Nominated for a Academy Award in 1946.

                                          Music for Millions FilmPoster.jpeg

Little six year old 'Mike' ( O'Brien) arrives in New York to stay with her pregnant sister Barbara (June Allyson) who is a Bassist in a Symphony Orchestra. Barbara lives with a group of women from the orchestra who has found out that her soldier husband is missing in action. The women decide to keep it a secrete till after the baby is born. "Mike'' teaches her sister to trust God and to pray. At the end of the film the baby is born and Barbara receives a letter from her husband and the Orchestra plays the Hallelujah Chorus.
This movie is filled with wonderful music played by Jose Iturbi and the orchestra, laughter by Jimmy Durante and wonderful acting by the child star Margaret O'Brien and June Allyson.

The role of Barbara, in Music for Millions, was literally a tonic for me. June Allyson

                 I Remember Mama

1948

Starring

Irene Dunne

Co staring

Barbara Bel Geddes
Oscar Homolka
Philip Dorn
Sir Cedric Hardwicke
Edgar Bergen
Rudy Valee
Ellen Corby
And
Barbra O’Neil

I remember mamma, a story about a mama who makes sacrifices for her children. This story is about a family, living in San Francisco, who makes sacrifices for one another, and the family practices oikonamia
( family Economics)  I highly recommend this movie to anyone. From the perspective of a large, conservative family there is nothing inappropriate. This is a great movie for all members of the family. This movie sweet, sad, funny and so lovable.

Read about A Man Called Peter here

Here are some more movies that I recommend and hopefully I will write reviews on them soon.

-The Stratton Story
-It's a Wonderful Life
-Cheaper by the Dozen
-So Dear to my Heart
